From Challenger to Icon - the method 96oz teardrop
The Icon
In leading design for the method brand for nearly 17 years, I’ve done my share of “riffs” on that iconic form. One of my favorites was the the 96oz giant sized version for a “club pack”
The 96oz refill
In the early days at method, we had an opportunity to enter Costco in Canada with a program of refills for our hand soaps. We had toyed with the idea of using a stock PET package, but it just didn’t payoff on the design-forward stance that method was known for. At the last minute we decided to pivot to a glorious giant teardrop. We needed a way to have people pour the soap into their little 12oz bottles, and with no time (or money) to tool up a custom closure, we repurposed our standard laundry spout for the job, coupled with a neck ring for carrying and grip. Sometimes design is like that. But it did turnout just fine, and the product continues to stand apart in the aisle.
